International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and is a call to action for continued progress with gender equality.
Celebrated on 8th March, the day has become an important date in the calendar – channelling and amplifying the energy that exists for women’s empowerment, and encouraging heightened following and support for the cause. This year there is arguably a renewed sense of energy – never before have we started a decade with such global momentum, debate and movement around gender equality.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘An equal world is an enabled world‘ – drawn from a notion of ‘collective individualism’.
There is no shortage of events to mark International Women’s Day 2020 (IWD2020). Check out what’s happening around New Zealand.
The International Women’s Day Breakfast from Parliament makes participating free and easy, and is a great way to start the day. Tune in to the livestream on the go, or bring colleagues together to share the event over breakfast.
